DeEtte Kozlow

DeEtte Kozlow

Originally from Wisconsin, I traded beer for wine—but cheese remains a favorite food group. A fun fact: one of my first jobs was performing opening night at lip-sync contests around Denver. I enjoy hiking, off-roading, and horseback riding. Now retired from gymnastics coaching and dance choreography, I still dance in the kitchen to “No Diggity.” I love travel, epic adventures, and photography—especially capturing nature.

I grew up in Colorado as a native and have moved all over the state during my life here. As such I like a good deal of outdoor activities, especially during the summer months. But the water is where I’m truly at home, as I often describe myself as ‘fish that walks like a man.’

Your Local Independent Agents in Denver

Nearly 300 people have reviewed this office and rated it 4.9. We lead with that because it is the thing we would want to know if we were choosing an agency, and because it is not an accident. It comes from people picking up the phone, answering the question, and following through.

Here is the practical part. We are independent, which means we shop your coverage across more than 80 carriers and bring you the ones that actually fit. In a market where Colorado hail has pushed rates up year after year and carriers keep changing how they cover roofs, that difference is not theoretical. It is usually several hundred dollars a year and occasionally a great deal more.

Our office is on East Tufts Avenue, and we take care of neighbors across Denver, Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills, Glendale, Englewood, and the metro generally.

What Coverage Around Here Really Has to Account For

Hail, and the roof endorsement nobody reads

Colorado is one of the worst hail states in the country and carriers have responded by changing how roofs are paid rather than only raising premiums. Many policies now schedule roofs on actual cash value, subtracting depreciation by age, or apply a separate roof deductible. On a 15-year-old roof, that is the difference between a covered claim and a five-figure bill. Send us your declarations page. We will tell you in about a minute which one you have.

Your dwelling limit versus what rebuilding actually costs

Denver construction costs have moved substantially. A home insured to a number set a few years ago is very likely underinsured today. Extended replacement cost and building code upgrade coverage both matter, and after a total loss they are where the real financial damage shows up.

Vehicle theft

Colorado has spent recent years near the top of national theft rankings and the metro carries most of it. Comprehensive is what pays for a stolen car. Liability-only pays nothing.

Condos and lofts

If you own a condo, your HOA’s master policy and your HO-6 have to fit together, and loss assessment coverage is the piece almost everyone is short on. When the association gets hit with a shared expense, that assessment lands on you. It is inexpensive to cover and painful not to.

Business coverage

A large part of this office is commercial: general liability, commercial property, commercial auto, workers compensation, business owner’s policies, and group health for Denver-area employers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my roof covered at replacement cost or actual cash value?
Look for a roof surfacing endorsement, a roof payment schedule, or a separate roof deductible on your declarations page. If it is not clear, send it to us. Many Colorado policies now pay roof claims on actual cash value, subtracting depreciation based on the roof’s age. On an older roof the gap is severe, and replacement cost is often available for a premium that pays for itself in one storm.
What is the minimum car insurance required in Colorado?
Colorado requires 25/50/15: $25,000 in bodily injury coverage per person, $50,000 per accident, and $15,000 for property damage. A newer vehicle clears $15,000 in property damage by itself, and anything above your limit is your personal responsibility. Look at 100/300/100 before you settle.
I own a condo. What does my HO-6 actually need to cover?
It needs to fit your HOA’s master policy, which means knowing whether the association covers the walls in or the studs out. The piece most condo owners are short on is loss assessment coverage, which responds when the association passes a shared expense along to unit owners. It costs very little and it is the most common gap we find on condo policies in this city.
Why did my homeowners premium go up when I never filed a claim?
Colorado carriers reprice whole territories after major hail years, and rebuilding costs have risen sharply. Your increase may have nothing to do with you. That is exactly when shopping across carriers works, because the companies pulling back and the companies growing quote the same house very differently.
Do you write business insurance in Denver?
We do, and a lot of it. General liability, commercial property, commercial auto, workers compensation, business owner’s policies, commercial umbrella, and group health.
How long does a quote take?
Most personal quotes come back the same business day with a current declarations page, driver’s license numbers, and VINs. Commercial quotes typically run two to five business days depending on the class of business.
